Dr. Tetsu Nakamura and Prof. Augustin Berque, the laureates of the Grand Prize of the Fukuoka Prize 2013 and 2009 respectively, are induced into the 8th Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto.

The Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto was established in 2010 at the birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol with the aim of honoring in perpetuity the achievements of those who have contributed to conservation of the global environment. The Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto Management Council tries to contribute to sharing all the efforts, by people, regions, and countries, toward resolution of our planet’s environmental issues. The Council also exhibits the inductees’ achievements and sends a message to the world from the Kyoto International Conference Center, the exact venue for the Third Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP3).

Among the 4th inductees was Dr. Wangari Maathai, former Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kenya. Dr. Vandana Shiva, winner of the Grand Prize of the Fukuoka Prize 2012, was also an inductee into the 4th Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto in 2013.

The Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto Commendation Ceremony and the Earth Forum Kyoto will be held with the presence of the 8th inductees at Kyoto International Conference Center on 11 February (Sat), 2017.
