Dr. Donald Keene Awarded Grand Prize for Contemporary Japanese Poetry
On the 31st of January, the Gendai Haiku Association, a society of Haiku (Japanese poetry) writers in Japan, convened the selection committee and named Dr. Donald Keene the 13th Modern Haiku Grand Prize winner.
Through his publications of Hyakudaino Kakaku and Masaoka Shiki, Dr. Keene made Japanese short poem literature well-known to the world in the field of Comparative Literature and was highly praised for his contributions.
