Celebrating Apichatpong in Bangkok

Bangkok welcomed the announcement of Apichatpong Weerasetakul winning the Arts and Culture Prize of the Fukuoka Prize 2013. 

A notification ceremony was held today from 11am local time at the Siam Society located in the heart of Bangkok.

The newly announced laureate was celebrated by Dr. Charnvit Kasetsiri, Fukuoka’s Academic Prize winner in 2012, together with distinguished guests and local news reporters.

Following the celebratory speeches by Mr. Dome Sukvong, Director of the Thai Film Archive, and H.E. Mr. Shigekazu Sato, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Apichatpong Weerasethakul gave his speech in reply.

The ceremony concluded with a screening of The Anthem, a 2006 short film directed by the winning filmmaker.
