On July 24th, Dr. Ramachandra Guha was announced this year's Academic Prize laureate at the notification ceremony held at Habitat World Center in New Dehli, India.

The laureate was celebrated by many distinguished guests including Mr. Gopalkrishna Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, revered in India as the Father of the Nation, the laureate of the Fukuoka Prize 2007, Prof. Ashis Nandi, and H.E. Mr. Takeshi Yagi, the Japanese Ambassador to India and Bhutan.

In the Celebratory Dialogue between Dr. Guha and Prof. Nandi held before the ceremony, the two intellectuals discussed the prospect for cultural exchange and the roles of Fukuoka City and its Prize.

Coming September, Dr. Guha will speak about the life of Mahatma Gandhi at the public lecture to hold in Fukuoka.  It will be a great opportunity to rediscover one of the biggest democratic state from Dr. Guha's historical perspective.
