Dr. Vandana Shiva, a laureate of the Fukuoka Prize 2013, awarded the MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2016!
The MIDORI Prize is a biennial international prize organized by the AEON Environmental Foundation and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, regional or local levels. One of the 2016 Prize Winners went to Dr. Vandana Shiva, a laureate of the Fukuoka Prize 2013.
Centered on the principle of ‘Earth Democracy,’ Dr. Shiva formed a grassroots movement “Navdanya” to save seeds, protect farmers’ rights and biodiversity, and has promote traditional organic farming methods. In the context of the global discourse on biodiversity and biosafety, she has demonstrated unshakable resolve in speaking out for marginalized populations and women.
