Fukuoka Prize 2018 Award Ceremony Held


The 29th Fukuoka Prize Award Ceremony was held at ACROS Fukuoka on September 20(Thur.), 2018.

In the presence of Their Imperial Highness Prince and Princess Akishino, the Award Ceremony opened with the three laureates walking to their seats through the audience with a clapping of hands.

TAKASHIMA Soichiro, Mayor of Fukuoka City, and FUJINAGA Kenichi, Chair of the Fukuoka City International Foundation, presented award certificates and medals to the laureates. Part I ended with the presentation of bouquets by children.

Part II started with the commemorative recital for the recipients of the Prize by Wakaba High School Tsugaru Shamisen Club. They then gave their acceptance speeches and were interviewed based on questions that city residents had submitted in advance, which were followed by Dr. Teejan Bai's Pandavani performance: brutal murder of Dushashana from the Mahabharata, the ancient Indian epic.
