Mr. Cai Guo-Qiang, the laureate of Arts and Culture Prize of Fukuoka Prize 2009, is awarded the Award of Fine Arts from Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology from Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs.

The Award is for those who have made outstanding achievements in each field of art, or who have opened up new horizons in their respective fields through their achievements and the award aims to contribute for the encouragement and promotion of artistic activities.
Mr. Cai was recognized for his exhibition "Cai Guo-Qiang: Space Travels, Starting with a Fireball" at the National Art Center, Tokyo, which traced his artistic development over a period of 30 years, which originally started from the solo exhibition "The Project for Projects" held in Tokyo in 1991.
