The Academic Prize laureate of Fukuoka Prize 2024, Sunil Amrith’s recent publication ‘The Burning Earth: An Environmental History of the Last 500 Years’ has received the 2025 British Academy Book Prize.

British Academy Book Prize is awarded annually for a non-fiction book from the works of non-fiction that will inspire readers to deepen their understanding of people, society and cultures across time and place.
The book is a magisterial account of the interconnections between human history and environmental transformation and exemplified the spirit of the prize: to deepen understanding of our world.
