More than 250 Toshogu shrines including the one built in 1652 by Kuroda Tadanori, the feudal lord of Fukuoka, have been constructed all over Japan. Why and how did the faith of Tosho Daigongen (Tokunaga Ieyasu) start and spread? Professor Timon Screech will look into the depth of its history through the studies of art and architecture.
Following the first part of his lecture, a discussion entitled ‘About Current Edo Studies’ with Professor Yuko Tanaka is planned.
